Susan comes from a pioneering film hertage that began with Robert Flaherty, considereed the father of documentary-style film. Her early mentor and collaborator, Richard Leacock, was the cinematographer on Louisianna Story. While this story was scripted, it style was in keeping with Flaherty's documentary temperament.
